Blount Boats Signs Contract for 155’ Passenger / Vehicle Ferry

On Tuesday, July 15th, Blount Boats Incorporated signed a contract with Puerto Rico Ports Authority to construct a 155’ Cargo/Passenger Ferry to be used for transportation to the Puerto Rican islands of Fajardo-Vieques-Culebra.

The new cargo/passenger ferry will be the 21st vessel built by the Blount shipyard for the Puerto Rico Ports Authority over the past forty-three years. The construction of this vessel will be based the on the Cayo Norte, built by Blount Marine in 1995.

The vessel will be powered by (4) Detroit Diesel 12V2000 engines totaling 3220 HP, 2.9:1 Twin Disc 5202 gears and (2) 40kw Northern Lights generators will supply ships service power. The vessel will be equipped with (4) Rolls Royce 4-blade bronze propellers measuring 48D x 32P.
The cargo passenger vessel will be built to USCG Subchapter “K” regulations for cargo/ ferry service and is scheduled for completion March 2004.
